Large Pitfired Porcelain Bowl

This large porcelain bowl is wheel thrown, with a pretty foot to lift the wide open form, giving the whole piece a classical feel.  The surface, carefully burnished, feels like smooth Parian marble to the touch.  The inside is softly coloured by the pit fire with a few black clouds, whilst the outside surface has a tumultous watercolour effect of purples, greys and blacks. Ready to be a centrepiece in your home, it is a delight to observe under different lights.

Parchment Urn

TThis wheel-thrown stoneware urn has been carefully burnished to leave fine rough lines across the surface, then wrapped in a foil saggar with copper carbonate, salts and seaweeds, creating a warm arras of peach, purples and blacks, reminiscent of parchment scripts as the carbon deposited where the stoneware was not burnished.

Small round pitfired bowl

This small stoneware round bowl has been carefully burnished, then wrapped in a foil saggar with copper carbonate, salts and iron wool, creating a delicate pattern on the surface during the firing.  The firing has brought out the small amount of iron in the clay, giving a gorgeous orange blush appearance to the overall body, from oranges to purples and deep reds. The pot has been polished with beeswax to protect the surface.

Chakra pitfired bowl

The shape of this shallow stoneware bowl is reminescent of chakra meditating bowls. It has been carefully burnished, before being wrapped in a foil saggar with iron oxide, salts, lemond rinds and copper wires, leaving a pretty metallic mesh pattern on the surface.  The atmospheric firing hascreated nebulous colours of purple greys and dep reds against peach tints.  A cloud of smoke and speckled red iron decorates the inside the unburnished pot. The pot has been polished with beeswax to protect the surface.

Pitfired Super Nova Bottle

This wheel-thrown stoneware bottle has been carefully burnished, then wrapped in a foil saggar with copper carbonate, cobalt, salts, seaweeds, creating a beautifully rich tapestry of crimson reds, peach and blacks against the pale clay body, with splashes of emerald blues. The neck, left unburnished, has captured the firing's carbons, giving it a corroded metal effect.

Pitfired Cosmos Bottle

A pretty wheel-thrown stoneware bottle, carefully burnished, then wrapped in a foil saggar with hessian fabric and copper wire, copper carbonate and seaweeds. The surface is a complex and tumultuous picture of swirling reds, blues, peach and blacks, resembling a stunning cosmic painting. The shape is a a simple design with a small narrow neck.

Pitfired bowl

Shallow stoneware bowl thrown lightly on the wheel, its simplicity is delightful. The piece was placed in the pit fire in a paper saggar with seaweed, copper wire and salts. The surface, carefully burnished, is beautifully marked by the flames and volatile oxides in the firing, bringing a complex tableau of deep burgundy, blues and greys on the outside, and soft stormy clouds on the inside. Pitfired Seed Pod - small size

Small pinch pots made of porcelain paperclay, these are so light and gentle, like seed pods.  Each pot has been decorated with a unique stamp representing seedlings to create a delicate pattern, then burnished.  Fired in a pit with only a few organic matters (salt, leaves, seaweed), the pods are transformed into tactile and delicate smoky husks.  Each are unique yet compliment each other.  To purchase specific seed pods, just select from the list below.

Pagoda vessel

This stoneware lidded jar has all the attributes of a pitfired vessel: dramatic yet ethereal. After having been burnished, leaves and salts from seaweeds infused the surface with subtle clouds of blues and purples, whilst a copper wire created a beautiful red marking slightly reminiscent of the eye of Horus. On the underside of the lid, you will find sprinkles of black and red colours with hues of blue.   The lid holds a graceful larsh twig attached with a black leather ribbon.

Meshed pitfired vase

This stoneware vessel has been carefully burnished, then wrapped in a foil saggar with copper carbonate, salts and copper mesh, creating a beautiful structural pattern on the surface during the firing.  The salts have created a complex and dynamic tableau of crystalline markings with the mesh contrasting with its structural pattern in the background. The overall body is tinted in a variation of deep reds, greens and peach.

Pitfired bowl

Small porcelain bowl finely thrown to give it incredible lightness for a pitfired vessel. Carefully burnished, the surface is shiny and smooth, the low foot and curved form nestles perfectly in your hands. Added to the pit without sagger or added materials, this piece is stunningly pretty:  inside, hues of blues and greys dance together.  On the outside, cinereal clouds are playfully covering the surface in clusters.

Pitfired Flattened Bottle

This wheel-thrown stoneware bottle has one side slightly flattened by a wooden paddle to emphasise the imprinted fern pattern. A delicate fringe of seedpods has been placed around the base of the bottle. Carefully burnished, the bottle was placed directly in the pit with sprinkled copper carbonate, salts and  seaweeds, creating a nebulous picture of purples, peach and blacks clouds against the pale clay body.
